Cyber Crime Workshop I

SCRB West Bengal had the privilege of organizing a 2-day Cyber Crime Workshop on June 16 & 17, 2007 at SCRB Bhawan, Salt Lake Kolkata. The Workshop was meant to create awareness on the the emerging cyber crime and as to how the Police Department needs to equip itself to successfully handle such cases. As DySP / Asst Commissioner of Police is the minimum rank prescribed to investigate such cases under the I. T. Act, 2000 the participants consisted mainly of Police Officers of and above the rank of DySP / ACP. A number of senior Police officers in the level of IGP / SP also participated. Participation was received from Kolkata & West Bengal Police as also from the neighbouring states of Jharkhand, Sikkim & Meghalaya. Besides, Senior Prosecutors drom the Directorate of Prosecution, West Bengal also attended.

The Workshop was Inaugurated by Shri Prasad Ranjan Roy, Addl. Chief Secretary, Home Department, Government of West Bengal. Shri A. B. Vohra, DG & IGP West Bengal, Shri R. P. Singh, Addl DG (Admn) West Bengal graced the occasion as Distinguished Guests.

Shri A. K. Deb, Chief Secretary, Government of West Bengal delivered the Valedictory Address. Shri R. P. Singh, Addl DG (Admn), West Bengal also attended as our Distinguished Guests.

The Course comprised mainly of Cyber Crime & Investigation, Cyber Laws and Cyber Forensics. The faculty included Prof. Indranil Sengupta, Head, Computer Science & Engineering and Head, School of Information Technology, IIT Kharagpur, Prof. Anirban Mazumdar of NUJS Kolkata, Prof Chandan Mazumdar of Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Experts from Central Forensics Science Laboratory, Kolkata and In-House Faculty from SCRB West Bengal.

The Workshop was highly appreciated by the Chief Secretary, West Bengal with clear message from him to hold bigger and detailed courses in future. The Participants highly praised the Workshop and demanded that they get future opportunity in learning the trade. The SCRB feels honoured and has assured to hold more detailed training courses in Cyber Crime shortly.
